when beans went in for his 1 year check up the doctor was asking if he was using any words yet. i was like (reverts to former teen-age self), of course....mom, dad, dah-tah (carter) and he makes monkey noises and moos like a cow. she made some notes without commenting and i got super self-conscious about whether or not he should be talking (i haven't cracked open the "what to expect" book since about 2006). of course i couldn't ask her because i was too busy defending myself in my head and running through the plan of action for vocabulary building for a 1 year old. and as most things happen when you least expect them to, beans was in his high chair on friday night and i'd gotten up to get him what felt like his 4th helping of food when he started babbling and i heard him say "all done." i looked at him and said "are you all done?" he repeated "all done" and lifted his hands up in the air. those little guys learn so fast and know so much before you realize they do. i wondered what else he'd been trying to say that i wasn't understanding. when we went to the nuggets game on saturday he said "apple." and when he dropped his food on the ground he said "uh-oh." the words are there just waiting to be understood, but i swear you have to use your imagination to actually hear what they are saying.
I swear jonah says things that i'm not catching...
