the wild things...

we are going to see where the wild things are tomorrow...

i found some fun where the wild things are activities and ideas on the national wildlife federation's be out there page. check it out. i can't wait to change the hundred acre woods into a new magical place where the wild things can roar their terrible roars and gnash their terrible teeth. is it strange that i am more excited than the boys? i know for a fact that there's a max living in my soul. still.

sweet pea and beans show - thank you for our books

amidst all the packing we are now down to the bare minimum for each member of the family. everyone has one bag currently filled with dirty clothes because the laundry detergent is in a box somewhere tbd. the boys found themselves with little to do this week and thus took up drawing on cardboard boxes, putting tape on cardboard boxes, climbing in cardboard boxes, and making forts out of cardboard boxes for entertainment. on tuesday afternoon we received a gift in the mail from the scribbler. and how fortuitous....books! the boys were saved from the crazy made up stories of one exhausted momma at bedtime (who packed every last book in the house)! with very few resources we were able to put together the latest episode of the sweet pea and beans show for your viewing pleasure.

Christmas eve

the last time we checked santa was over our dear friends in new zealand. wishing allan and bobbi a wonderful Christmas together. sweet pea was watching the santa tracker video and yelling to santa via the internet that he was being a good boy and so was beans....he said i can't wait until you get here.

this is aunt bonnie's perspective of our household before she took her xanax:

and after:

just one last piece of goodness before i go....if you're in the mood for holiday music (and you haven't puked from overexposure) listen to pandora and put in burl ives as your station. it's so nice to listen to the magical sound of classic Christmas music.

MANY BLESSINGS TO YOU SWEET FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.

choir boy

sweet pea is like a ping pong ball bouncing all over the place. how could one child cause such joy and such consternation? i am constantly baffled by his wisdom, and frustrated by his activity. after spending an entire weekend trying to figure out how to handle his complete knowledge of guns and their function (acquired at school on friday?!?), i talked to his preschool teachers who assured me the only problem they have at school is the use of the word stupid. on so many levels that is frustrating. especially when he came home last night asking what shut up means. i want to make sure he can deal with all of life's troubles, and protect him from them at the same time. preschool teachers cannot be aware or prevent every crazy thing from filtering into the spongy mind of my boy (but shouldn't they at least notice?).

another parent at school asked if i wanted her to pick me up information about a parenting class on "high spirited" children. thanks for noticing. thank you very much. it's like reading those darn "what to expect...." books right after you have a baby and stressing out about whether or not your kid is eating enough. intuitively i know if you trust yourself, the parenting just happens naturally. being kind people and loving your children has to pay off in the end, right? can you tell how freaked out i am about parenting a preschooler?!? i can't even imagine what i'll do when he wants to go on a date. i know it all comes down to our parenting. to ignore or not to ignore. to give control and to take it away. teaching empathy. controlling anger. teaching by example. following through. being consistent. and i find, as with most things, the harder you try to be the "perfect" parent, the less likely you are to achieve that goal. i just can't help but feel that if i let up for a second my boy will be sharking the playground for lunch money.

on the street

yesterday sweet pea and i were waiting to go to play gym and we thought we might watch a little sesame street with our friend brady smith-es (carterism). i was surprised to see chris brown singing with elmo. for those of you who are big sesame streeters this wouldn't be at all shocking.....we, on the other hand, watch very little sesame street (sweet pea and beans are crazy boys and rarely sit still for such things as tv). today i was scrolling down my google reader and found a post on make and takes about feist on sesame street. so i did a little search on you tube and found out that so many really cool rockers have been on the street. i had so much fun watching the videos and discovered that i have many memories of sesame street from when i was a kid. i never realized the guests were famous (i always thought they were just some silly adults on a kids show). hmmm....makes me wish we would watch a little more sesame when we have the chance and a little less thomas!

my favorite was....

who is your favorite sesame street guest?

cultural enrichment

through a grant from the scientific and cultural facilities district (scfd) sweet pea gets to have miss roseanne come to preschool once a week to do art, song and dance. over the summer the kids have been learning about different countries participating in the olympics. for the whole summer they have been practicing dances that are characteristic of each country and had their big performance this morning. my only glimpse into what this was going to be like, was the constant repetition of: tai..........chi. tai.......chi. tai....chi. tai..chi. (and if in your mind you begin chanting tastes great...........less filling, you'll get the jist of that routine). nothing could prepare me for this...
what would michael phelps' parents do if he just bypassed the opening ceremonies and ran into the crowd, refusing to be part of the games? sweet pea missed the opening ceremony and the passing and lighting of the (fake) torch. such a shame, tsk, tsk, tsk....but when the ribbon dance symbolizing romania started he ran right back out to participate (too bad he missed the tai chi routine).

for some reason i can't post the video footage of carter's peak performance in "the hatching egg" dance. i will work on it tonight (not at work). and will update everyone on the developing, I FINALLY GOT MY NEW CAMERA FOR MY BIRTHDAY story....you'll be waiting on the edge of your seats....

change of pace

we're in a lull of blog worthy child activity. sweet pea is in a very challenging period of life. god love him. beans bears the brunt of this challenging time with grace and smiles and the loyalty of a younger brother. they exude the beauty and frustrations of their ages. so, i'm taking a fork in the road to post about some other things that make me happy. i was reminded of this in an email today - the first time i saw dancing matt i thought he was amazing.please check out matt's website and his brand new 2008 video. it is so fun to watch him dance his way across the world. the happiness that people find when dancing and listening to music is obviously universal. you can see it in the faces of each person who participated. i suggest that everyone go out or go home and dance with your friends and families tonight. dance well, dance badly, do it for the excercise, do it for the laughs. don't be embarassed. it's a challenge. in our house we call it dance party usa (we call everything "something" party usa - i don't know why). sweet pea has his own playlist on the ipod. here's what he'll be dancing to tonight: the tiki room, upside down, life is a highway, show me what you got, jump around, stayin alive, free and easy, let's get it started. have a nice weekend!

cinco

a little video of my brave acrobat. i'm wondering if we can just sign him up this year when we go to the circus. my hands were sweating just watching some of the kids launch up to the ceiling. the "facilitator" said he's never had a kid hit their head on the ceiling air vent, but boy he was sure trying. furthermore, what kind of qualifications do you need in order to launch children into the sky? the more i think of it, the more sick to my stomach i get. however, sweet pea just jumped right in that harness and flew away. i particularly love the voices in the background. i have no idea who the man was that was cheering him on, but you can hear little fred-ro (that's what sp calls him) in the background saying "look at carter!"

fred invited the whole class to celebrate his 3rd birthday. it's been so much fun watching these kids grow from toddlers to preschoolers together. they all get along so well. we have our preschool orientation meeting tomorrow night and in less than 4 weeks sweet pea and most of his cute friends will be moving to the rainbow room for preschool. next stop college.

my happy place - old school

i love to watch this video of sweet pea as a baby. it always makes me happy. those two look so much alike. mabye it's a mother's deciphering eye, but i think that sweet pea looks like brad and beans looks like me. most people question who their mother is (in all honesty they look so much like their dad it's crazy) but i swear i gave birth to them. happy friday!

pre-collegiate programming

we survived the last of the birthday festivities this weekend and managed to squeeze in a few doctor's appointments too. they are only 20 and 34 pounds today, but in 200 pounds from now they will be ready to play for the csu rams (if brad has anything to do with it). this video of the fight song is adorable, however sweet pea always forgets a line in there and then he got sidetracked and started over....but the ending is super cute if you can stick with it. i'll be so proud when my sons pass over this football business and the cu v. csu rivalry to play hockey at du. so disappointing that the pioneers lost to those stinking badgers....but i digress.

sharing body parts

grandpa john is donating one of his kidneys to a friend tomorrow. at first carter thought that grandpa john would not want to share his body parts and that he should keep them to himself. he seems to be better with the concept now, and wanted to say this to grandpa john:

good luck john, you'll be in our prayers. and as carter said tonight - rock on grandpa john!

any day now....

today was the day. witness beans first steps...

it's just amazing to me, those first steps. i was thinking about them when carter offered to put his socks in the dirty clothes basket tonight. i was watching him open the closet door and thinking about his first steps only 2 years ago. what potential our babies have....
