this week's five minute friday prompt from gypsy mama is beauty.
go.
i am a colorado girl and i have never sought after mushrooms in the high country. in fact, i've never seen them so much as given them a second thought. but this year we were blessed with amazing snow pack in the mountains giving way to a lush, green forest filled with ferns. moss galore. and mushrooms. a showy display of vivid color. i've been warned off from ever venturing to pick said mushrooms. warned that looks can be deceiving and mushrooms are dangerous. but like i said they were elusive at best. until this summer. as we hiked through the mt. evan's wilderness i was shocked to find them everywhere. i was particularly attracted to these giant red umbrellas. their beauty was striking as you'd round a corner and see a pop of red in the midst of other forest hues. i tried to capture each and every one on my camera. first thing back in civilization i researched these magnificent creatures. come to find out my beautiful muse was poisonous as they come. it's amazing to me how even nature can tempt you away from value with its marketing genius.
stop.
that one looks plucked right out of a story book. my aunt always told me never to pick them because they were fairy stools and umbrellas.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I definitely have found myself lured by deceptive beauty. I loved your analogy.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this beautiful reminder that beauty for beauty's sake does not necessarily beauti-FULL make.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post!
