boys bedroom inspiration

we ventured over to california adventure for a tiny visit with our friends lightning and mater. while the boys were posing and generally fascinated with all things CARS, i was gathering ideas. last summer we ate at this cute restaurant in rawlins, wyoming and it gave me the idea to celebrate sweet pea and my dad's love of the big red truck and create a little gas stationy, vehicle haven for sweet pea's bedroom. anything crafty has been slow going in my world. but a little vacation away from the country got me all inspired again. my grandpa used to burn trash in old barrels out back (like the ones above). i'm thinking about using one of them for a clothes hamper.this was the pegboard display behind the cash register at radiator springs. this i can do. we've got pegboard. we've got hooks. we've got miscellaneous car parts and tools. we've got millions of "play" tools for a pretend workshop. another thing we have is a million hats and jackets and art pictures that need a place to hang.
in the garage we have some old lockers that dupont gave away/ sold when the explosives plant closed down in our little town. i am going to dig them out and paint them. what color should i use to tone down the lime green room? or distract from the lime greenyness of it all?

another thing i was considering was converting a tool chest into a dresser. but then i found out how crazy expensive these things are. so i did a little research and found this post on apartment therapy, leading me to this fabulous tutorial on how to convert a dresser into a tool chest. brilliant. and i love the blue color, but not sure it will work with the GREEN room.

still working on curtains and rods. i have white canvas with tire tracks in mind. i'm sure we have some old tires somewhere. maybe some pipe for the rods? hmmm...

  1. Wow! Great ideas Meg...sounds like a lot of fun. I wouldn't do blue with lime green though. How about red and black with the lime green? You could always check craigslist for tool chests too but your idea works just as well. Are you doing anything special for his bed and nightstand? If you could somehow make a nightstand look like a gas pump that would be awesome!

  6. Navy Blue is the colour to go with that green. It would look spectacular. Maybe it's just because I'm from the Pacific!
