i was trying to think of what i would say about our movie experience and as i look back i say it was mostly positive. first off, sweet pea won't sit still for an entire movie. not even at home. he would rather be exploring and asking questions. to me the movie was so big. it was emotional. it was loud. it was ominous. the cinematography was wonderful in that it captured the enormity of the "wild things." all of those aspects, i imagine, would be overwhelming to a little guy. just ask max. my new favorite character. i had such empathy for him...and wondered about my children's abilities to express their frustrations in creative ways. as beans sat captivated on my lap, sweet pea asked question after question. we made three trips to the bathroom (for sweet pea not beans). and nearing the end of the movie, sweet pea gave up and asked to leave. so, i am now waiting for the dvd at which time i will fall in love with the movie all over again (and see the ending). i would not suggest, however, taking your children. but thanks mom all the same for the fun saturday adventure. it was such a treat getting to see a partial movie in the theater. (as opposed to seeing some of a movie at home).
in the wild things, max's mom is working on her laptop and she asks him for a story. as he dreams and tells, she types away and documents his thoughts. i loved it. it's what sweet pea and i have been working on. you have to start with, "once upon a time, mom." he told me as we all sat together in the bathroom....

i digress....sweet pea and i were sitting in the bathroom while beans did his thing. and we started an epic adventure together entitled, Fredo the Bandito. it's a story about a bandit, a good "bad" guy, two daughters, an entire tribe of Native Americans, and....the sheriff. i don't want to give too much away, it's gonna be good. we add a little more to our story every day. and if i forget for some reason why there was a bank robbery, sweet pea can tell me word for word the point and purpose of every plot twist and turn.
moving from the restroom (singular...did i mention we only have one bathroom in the country?) to the kitchen, we sat at the laptop together and recorded our thoughts on the matter of Fredo. sweet pea became increasingly frustrated with his inability to put the words on the screen. and this is the clincher...this week he started reading. yes, reading people! don't go all crazy and think we're going to get him tested for g&t or anything....he's just getting down some sight words. three letters max. but as has always been the case with this little one...his mind works so much faster than his physical capabilities. he wants to say so many things...but he doesn't have the words. or, he has the words but can't utilize them. oh, but he's so close. just think of all the worlds we'll open when he can read those books....the question is will he sit still for that long?
potty-trained and reading?! it must be the good clean country livin'!
