house update

“The moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves as well. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen accidents, meetings and material assistance that no one could have dreamed would come their way. Whatever you can do or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.” - Goethe

it's been a couple of weeks and some minor meltdowns on our house project, but we are once again making progress. thankfully our contractor has stuck with us for months. he has really thought things through and when we were worried about the structural integrity of the house he came up with some solutions that are amazing, more costly, but totally worth it.(see the wires hanging down? those were holding up the ceiling joists. chairs up there? i have found a total of 3...still looking for number 4. hope i get lucky because they are awesome!)

back in line with our original dreams for this house, we get to add a loft space (approx 300 sq. ft.), a vaulted ceiling in the living room and an office/ guest room/ playroom. by doing this we will be bracing the exterior walls and resupporting the roof. functionality and stability. they have taken off the siding of the house and are reworking the window headers to meet code. ordering windows and doors this week. working on the porch. working on the fire place. (the brown boards are where the back door used to be...to the left was the entry way now the laundry room and the right aunt b's room now the kitchen).

let me lay it out there...the biggest problem i've been dealing with this week is learning to live in a small town fish bowl.

  1. I so wish I was there to help you out... I LOVE the chiars... a little jealous at such a great find... don't worry, if you only find 3 go find one at a flea market that is close enough...
