long weekend

it seems like so long...one week ago today, i was busy loading up the etsy shop for the cora fundraiser and packing for our long ski weekend in idaho and wyoming. thankfully my mom was able to watch our dogs - thanks mom!!! it's hard to figure out what to do with plural dogs when you are used to only one. can you imagine 3 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs on a 9 hour drive?!? i drove the whole way to idaho and my brother was so sweet to ride shotgun and also run interference with the little guys in the back seat. (how on earth did i forget beans paci?)
george and danielle flew (they were smart). brad and his buddy cj rode in the other car and got some much needed catch up time. time to have uninterrupted adult conversation is something that just doesn't happen often in our family. sometimes i realize that i've gone whole days without telling brad the funniest thing that happened. i always enjoy the night time when we can cozy up on the couch and talk about the day(s).
we were so lucky to spend saturday at targhee in idaho. from our car, a horse drawn wagon took us to the ski base. never in all my years skiing at targhee have i ever parked in the lower lot. there were a lot of people there (lots of little kid ski racers). but the thing i love about targhee is that it never feels like a lot of people. you can do whole runs all by yourself. the boys spent the day at kids camp and got to watch the avalanche dogs during their training. i was sure they wouldn't last for more than a couple of hours, but they lunched and napped and were ready to ski in the afternoon. it felt decadent to have an entire day to myself to ski and enjoy the fresh air without little guys saying "hold you, hold you." as we were leaving, tim - the last old-timer on the mountain - stood at the base and said goodbye to every last person. targhee is one of my very favorite family places to go and the people who work there are lovely (young and old alike).
on sunday while the expert skiers headed over to the village in jackson...the expert sledders headed up the road to the mike norris campground.
all the boys were fearless in their sledding feats. they were fast. they crashed often.

there was not one tear shed all day long. not even the smallest participant had anything to complain about. we finished off the day with some wine for the adults and cupcakes for the boys, a little sleepover with the hentzens, and madagascar 2.
monday we took our time. we worked on the snow hill we fondly refer to as mt. bradley. this is the view from the fort up top.

and the crazy boys who try to conquer it every. single. year. (no jumps thankfully)!
we had lunch, we packed and we went to bed early. we had so much fun and appreciated grandma bobbi for all the hard work that goes into hosting this fun get together (every year). however, nothing could have prepared us for the drive home....blizzard. sickness. no naps. 10.5 hours in the backseat between two boys. yikes! although we had a great time, we are so happy to be back and ready for our routine. i am amazed at how adaptable the boys are becoming as they get older! what a blessing!

(those antlers in the town square really gross me out. i don't know why. they just do.)
