catching up...

it was the most beautiful day in sunny colorado...i've heard there are more sunshine days here than in florida. just something to ponder (but don't move here...there are too many people already). it was a nice 60 degrees, and not too many people at the zoo where we spent most of the day. we started off this morning pretty shaky. the boys have joined a taekwondo class for toddlerish folks two times a week. when i say boys i use that term lightly because beans is clearly too young to really pay attention, although sometimes i think he "gets it" a little more than sweet pea. they spend most of the class running back to sit with me. but there are little 3/4 year olds in there who are amazing. sweet pea is working on testing for his first belt. now, if he would only wear the belt and the shirt that comes as part of his uniform...i have a feeling you can't move on in taekwondo until you are ready to wear the uniform. they are very patient with him (i am not). my favorite part of this whole endeavour is the way they carefully teach children to use their knowledge and their words with honesty and integrity. i really hope these lessons wear off on sweet pea as his words and actions are very suspect these days...let's just say that more than ever we are working on making good choices and talking about why it's not good to follow other people when they make bad choices.

one of our biggest battles lately has been with dressing for school and bed. sweet pea insists that he cannot do it himself. we created this handy little person that sweet pea can dress as he dresses himself. if he manages to get all of his clothes on in the day he earns a sticker. when he gets 5 stickers he gets to choose a new book. today he did not earn a sticker....the taekwondo uniform did us in!

  3. I like Tisha's comment..."spirit" is a very nice word for it!

Arielle and Carter are seriously like two peas in a pod...they are so much alike...

Great thinking on the chart :-)

  5. My sister-in-law, Carol, has sent all four of her children to these lessons. The oldest is 26 and the youngest is 16. It really benefited the boys in wrestling and the girls in self-esteem and self-protection. I do think it helps with coordination and makes them think about the right words and actions at the right time. They all have black belts. Sweet Pea will come around--he just has a lot of spunk. Patience, patience, patience...
