when do deer turn to elk?

a friend (who was a whitewater river guide) once told a story about a tourist who asked "when do deer turn to elk?" he replied, "in the fall, if you listen carefully you'll here them bugling. they do that because it hurts so much." (hee hee). we spent the day in rocky mountain national park with some friends. free day today. lots of people. beautiful changing leaves. huge wildlife traffic jams. many bugling elk.

the boys had a fun nature walk collecting rocks, sticks and sand in their special "nature bags."
