i have never made a costume for sweet pea, and feeling somewhat guilty about that i got pretty crafty last year and turned beans into a rooster of sorts. my inspiration was his mohawk. yes, my sweet baby was born with an adorable curly q that could not be touched. said adorable curly q turned into long unruly mohawk and eventually the crest of my little halloween rooster.
long unruly mohawk before
long unruly mohawk no more (sniff, sniff)
i scoured the internet for ideas on costumes and couldn't beat the prowess of martha in the crafting corner. here's her spring chicken idea and how to. obviously i improvised and to my credit i think it turned out pretty darn cute even if it didn't look exactly like hers. there were some design flaws (feathers are not baby friendly - note to self), but you try stuffing a 6 month old baby into this costume and see how good yours turns out....
doesn't he look so amicable and friendly? he never let out a peep or crow in protest. however, his dad will so never forgive me for doing this to his son. at the first house we went to while trick or treating, our neighbor's house for pete's sake, she asked if he was a girl (did i forget to send her a birth announcement?). clearly roosters are not female. the costume was not quite the hit i intended, but he's the second child and puts up with everything (thank god)! i wonder how much he'll pay for these blackmail pictures some day?!?

again, i digress...this year with the best intentions and craft projects in mind...my sweet pea picked out his own costume at old navy and there was no stopping him. he's worn it almost every day. and unlike last year when he wanted to be a cow, no a fireman, no a cow, not anything....this year he will be a store bought monkey and so will beans. the end. they insist. and there is no arguing with a three year old (i realize the irony in that statement).
That this probably the most adorable rooster I have ever seen... I think you did a great job, I love Queen Martha too, but sometimes her instructions are so complicated that you have to improvise on yourown, but you did great... I think the Old Navy costumes are super cute, I have to get something started for all my babies... Yes I still call all ofthem babies even though one is about to turn 10, middle one is 7 and little bit is 3 monthes, oh well they will always be my babies.... I just want to let you know that I love to read your blog and have appreciated your support on mine....
ReplyDeletei have to say for beans sake...glad to hear you went with the old navy monkey idea. yay for halloween!! when's pumkin carving...and tell sweet pea i promise to be gentle with the knives!!
ReplyDeleteLove the monkey idea for both of them! They have great taste. Arielle is being like SP was last year. First she wanted to be a purple ballerina, then a pink minnie mouse, then a red one, now tinkerbell. I'm NOT letting her change her mind again!
