sniff, sniff

in many ways i hold this little one back because of my own fears.  he has been telling me for a long time that training wheels aren't his thing.  at Christmas, he took to the scooter as his primary source of transportation around town.  he hasn't ridden his bike for almost a year.  and last night at dinner, i told him he was going to have to practice riding.  he dug in his heels.  he said naughty things.  he asked to have his training wheels taken off.  and then he rode away.  and as much as it causes me joy and pain (like sunshine and rain...sing it with me mommas of the 80's) he is growing up and becoming independent despite the fact that i want him to stay young.  i hope so much that my issues don't become his.  i hope i let him grow and bloom and experience his freedom without holding him back too much.

in the next few weeks so many changes will be happening.  we have school shopping, and orientation, lunch boxes and the bus.  THE BUS!  YIKES!  i was reminded yesterday that the bus is not a bad thing...and that the kids WANT desperately to ride the bus to kindergarten (help me to not interfere.  please hide the keys to my car so i won't be tempted to drive him.  you can bet i will be following the bus to school for an unspecified number of days, though.)  he's going to have friends and conversations i can't monitor, soon there will be "going to someone's house" and after school activities, and sports, and cars, and DATING, and....deep breath.  he's five.  there's so much time...and yet it is flying by so quickly!

EDITED:  I TOTALLY FORGOT TO MENTION THAT THIS STRETCH OF ROAD WHERE SP FOUND HIS FREEDOM WAS THE EXACT SAME SPOT I LEARNED TO RIDE MY BIKE.

THAT WAS MY FAVORITE PART!!!

EXCEPT I GOT TO THE CORNER AND FELL OVER INTO THE BUSHES:)
