the talk

sweet pea and i had the talk this morning. we talk alot...because we drive alot. our drive is a little longer than it used to be. so we talk. today he insisted on wearing his watch to school. the one santa gave him for Christmas last year. and he remembered that part. he wondered why santa chose to give him a watch. then he said, "this watch says GAP on it. this watch is from the GAP." you can see where i'm going with this. he's got two pieces of the puzzle now. he's four. last year was the first year he even kind of got the whole point of santa. and with that a whole slew of questions like only a three year old could ask pertaining to santa's legitimacy. and even then i debated with myself about the fun santa fantasy and the crushing reality/ drama of santa in childhood. hmm...how to explain it to this bright little sunshine without him calling bs on me.....i think i've met my match this year. i imagine before year's end he will be wondering why santa would shop at the GAP when he has that whole workshop in the north pole. with elves who make things. in the arctic. with flying reindeer. i want to teach him the true meaning of Christmas without the materialistic garb, but i clearly remember that i believed in santa until I WAS 9 YEARS OLD, and it was magical.

  2. maybe stuff that has a logo this year can come from mommy and daddy and other stuff can come from santa... or maybe santa loves the gap too. i mean really who doesn't love the gap?!

i can't believe he picked up on that. he's so smart!

  3. Has he questioned how santa can fit down the chimney yet? That was our biggest obstacle last year. The gap thing is pretty funny!

  5. DO NOT tell him there's no
Santa. I was crushed when I found out and so were you and so will he. Let the magic of childhood stay for as long as it can, being grown up lasts a long long time.
