the view

demolition on the new/ old house officially started a week ago. and with that we expected some pitfalls. we have expected there to be surprises and planned for budget busters...but we never anticipated that bringing the house down to bare bones would reveal some lofty structural defects. {like the roof is partially supported by a non-load bearing wall that has no foundation underneath it. and the beams that hold up the ceiling are nailed together in pieces and hung by wire from the roof rafters supported by a non-load bearing wall that has no foundation underneath it.} our contractor had to consume many adult beverages in order to wash away the blues he had from this week. but oddly we are still optimistic. we are hiring a structural engineer who will tell us how to put the house back together safely...however, there is a very distinct possibility that this project could turn in a direction that i'm not comfortable with. yet. {back to the drawing board...possibly from scratch...down to the foundation} as sweet pea says....we don't know. i find it amusing that i have been wrapped up in bathroom fixtures and bedroom furniture....all the while ignoring the very obvious obstacles ahead. that's how i roll.meanwhile back at the ranch...our house is not yet for sale. but it may be sold. funny how life works. would it be strange to live in an apartment for an indefinite amount of time with two kids, two dogs and 8 fish? where would we find such an apartment? actually i'm quite looking forward to that possibility. a summer spent with no obligations to a yard or housework. bare necessity living with no mortgage. maybe we'll travel. right....
