precious tidbits

a few months back i wrote about our movie project, push (now titled precious). after winning top awards at the sundance film festival, it was selected for screening this week at cannes (un certain regard). oprah showed the trailer yesterday during her interview with mo'nique. it is scheduled to be released in november...i've been doing some blog reading about precious. it will be interesting to see how the movie is received. looks like a lot of people are turned off by the mega oprah aspect (shocker). also the material is difficult. as a child advocate, i would say the material is super relevant and necessary, though. people need to feel uncomfortable about child abuse and the fact that it is so pervasive. looking at this from an outsider's perspective...it has been an interesting learning lesson to see what goes into movie production and in the end how the different parties grapple with the art of the movie and the bottom line. i kind of sense that it's possible for only one of those aspects to prevail...but if nothing else, root for gabbie. it's her acting debut. she's good people.
